The iPhone Duo is Apple's new foldable, and it's shaping up to be the hardest iPhone to actually get at launch. Prices start at $1,999, and supply is expected to be limited — which means the difference between having one on launch day and waiting weeks could come down to a few minutes on pre-order morning. The good news: Apple lets you do almost all the work days in advance. Here's the plan.
The key dates
- Monday, October 12 — "Get Ready" opens. The Apple Store app lets you set up your pre-order ahead of time: pick your color, storage, carrier, and payment method, and save it.
- Friday, October 16, 8:00 AM ET — pre-orders go live. With your setup saved, checkout becomes a couple of taps instead of a scramble through menus while stock drains.
- Friday, October 23 — launch day. The first Duo units land in buyers' hands. Early pre-orders give you the best shot at a launch-day delivery or pickup slot.
How to set it up
On or after October 12, open the Apple Store app and find the iPhone Duo "Get Ready" setup. Work through it calmly — choose the color and storage you'd want, select your carrier, and get your payment details in place. Doing this on a Monday evening, coffee in hand, beats doing it at 7:59 AM on Friday with a countdown running. When pre-orders open at 8:00 AM ET sharp on October 16, open the app, pull up your saved setup, and check out.
Who should do this
Anyone who already knows they want the Duo at launch. At a $1,999 starting price, this is a considered purchase — but if you've decided, the Get Ready setup costs you five minutes and removes every bit of friction from the moment that actually matters. If you're still on the fence, set it up anyway: saving a configuration doesn't commit you to buying, and you can simply not check out.
Five minutes now, launch day later
Limited-supply launches reward the prepared. Set up your Duo on October 12, set an alarm for just before 8:00 AM ET on October 16, and let everyone else fight the loading screens.
